Funding opportunities

Look for opportunities externally through government and non-government agencies to further support the employment of Aboriginal staff into the NSW Health workplace.

Local funding

Health services are encouraged to consider opportunities to locally fund training programs, pathways, cadetships, traineeship and scholarships which support Aboriginal people as a priority to facilitate equal outcomes through equitable processes.

Programs which are funded are outlined on the Stepping Up Career Pathways website.

Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Program

The Elsa Dixon Aboriginal Employment Program supports Aboriginal employment in the NSW Public and Local Government sectors. An initiative of the Department of Education & Communities, the program provides funding to organisations to support Aboriginal education, employment and training by subsidising the salary, development and support costs of Aboriginal employees in a public service agency or local council.

Essentially, the Elsa Dixon program presents an opportunity for managers to support the permanent or temporary employment of an Aboriginal person (for up to 12 months) in NSW Health. This represents a significant development opportunity for both the employee and employer.
