Shortly after this you will receive a formal offer for the role, this will be emailed to you. You will be requested to electronically sign and accept the offer. Electronically accepting the letter of offer implies that you accept any conditions that apply to the job. Approximately 60 minutes after you have electronically accepted your offer, you will receive further electronic tasks that you need to complete to finalise the onboarding process. This may include providing your tax, banking, superannuation, review your personal details (emergency contacts, EEO data).

Once you commence in your new job, you will receive orientation to the role, workplace and organisation.

BulbImportant - timing for response
  • Sometimes it can take up to 4 weeks before you receive advice about the outcome of the recruitment process. If you are getting concerned, get in touch with the contact listed on the job advertisement for an update on progress.

If unsuccessful

If you don't get the job, you will receive advice via email which may also include whether you are going to be placed onto a NSW Health eligibility list or talent pool.

Try not to be too disheartened by the outcome. The recruitment process is challenging and although you may be disappointed, there will be other opportunities for you to get the position you want in NSW Health.

You have the opportunity to receive feedback on how you performed during the recruitment process by contacting the Convenor/contact person and making a request. This is a chance for you to identify areas that need further attention and improve your competitive edge for next time.

Eligibility lists

The creation of eligibility lists is part of the selection process for positions in Local Health Districts and other NSW Health organisations. They are created particularly for frontline and other positions which have proved difficult to fill, and positions where there is a high turnover or high demand for a particular occupational group.

Where a list is created, suitable applicants are ranked in order of merit. If the position you applied for, or a similar position, based on the job type and grade, becomes available within the period specified in the relevant Award, you may be offered that position. Eligibility lists are current for up to 12 months depending on the relevant Award.

Talent pools

Talent pools are used as part of the recruitment process for the Ministry of Health. A talent pool is a group of suitable candidates (whether or not existing Public Service employees) who have been assessed against capabilities at certain levels.

  • A talent pool can be established for a specific period of time but a person cannot be in a pool for longer than 12 months
  • Talent pools will be created as a result of recruitment action at public service, department or agency level
