Recruitment decisions are based on the abilities, qualifications, experience, standard of work, performance and capabilities of an applicant, as they are relevant to the position.
The selection panel is responsible for ensuring that the recruitment process is carried out in a fair and consistent manner and that the most suitable candidate is selected for the job.
The panel's role is to:
1 Review your application
The panel undertakes a review of applications, including supporting documentation such as your CV and decide which applicants will progress through to the next stage of the selection process. They make this decision according to how well applicants meet the requirements for the role as outlined in the position advertisement and job description.

- It is very important that your application addresses all the requirements for the job to improve your chances of progressing to the next stage of the recruitment process.
2 Facilitate the assessment process
The panel make a further assessment of applicants' suitability for the job via an interview or other comparative assessments. These provide an opportunity to assess an applicant's skills, experience and knowledge as they relate to the role.
If you are selected for this stage of the process you will be given at least 3 days notice of the chosen method of assessment.
To be fair to all applicant groups the method/s of assessment will be specifically targeted to the requirements of the job.
Examples of assessments include:
Work samples or test such as word processing, numeracy and literacy tests
Presentation by applicant or group exercises
Assessment by specialist groups
Relevant psychological / psychometric testing

Important - selection for interview
- If you are selected to attend an interview, you will be given the names and titles of those on your selection panel. You will also be advised of any documentation you may need to bring with you on the day.
3 Conduct reference and background checking
The panel conduct or ensure conduct of all necessary screening checks on the preferred applicant, this includes referee checks, police checks, child safety screening, and service checks as relevant.
Throughout the recruitment process, confidentiality will be maintained and the privacy of all applicants respected.
4 Recommend a preferred applicant
The panel make a recommendation on which applicant is most suitable for the position following consideration of all the information gathered throughout the recruitment process from your referees, your application, supporting documents, interview and any other assessment methods.
